The domain of cultural sociology generally consists of research on the culture of society. In that sense culture does not refer to the creation and consumption of cultural products, but to the representations, meanings and opinions that can be found in a society. In the cultural sociology domain recent work of the TOR Research Group has focused on populism, political opinions, social stratification, individualism and subjective wellbeing. This type of research is often fundamental, with the analysis of existing cultural patterns as main goal, but can also have a ‘hybrid’ character through collaborations with organizations such as Stichting P&V or magazines as Knack/Le Vif. The aim of these hybrid projects is to conduct research on contemporary themes in society, such as unsafety, genetics, happiness and communitarian themes.
