De studie naar een “Interculturele dialoog” werd gesteund door Stichting P&V en maakte daarbij deel uit van een Europees project onder leiding van PREFONDES (Pôle Européen des Fondations de l’ Économie Sociale). Het overkoepelende doel van het Europese project was het aanmaken van een uitwisselings- en overlegplatform aangaande interculturele dialoog. Voor het Belgische project viel de keuze op een dialoog over de taalgrenzen heen. Want gezien de moeilijke historische en sociale situatie waar België als tweetalig land mee geconfronteerd wordt, is het belangrijk om op een constructieve en geleide manier een dialoog tot stand te brengen. Onze interculturele dialoog heeft niet onmiddellijk als vooropstelling om tot concrete veranderingen te komen maar hoofdzakelijk om toenadering mogelijk te maken. We willen geen stereotypen, vooroordelen en clichés uit de weg gaan, maar ze net gebruiken om te weten te komen welke beeldvorming er bestaat over de anderstalige. Om deze vooropstelling te bereiken hebben we er voor gekozen om, wat we noemen, een verhalenforum in te richten. Concreet hebben we een 55-tal deelnemers gerekruteerd en hebben we hen, over vijf samenkomsten verspreid, de mogelijkheid geboden om verhalen te vertellen over de andere taalgemeenschap. Nadat al deze verhalen waren verteld en ingezonden, werden ze uiteindelijk aan een narratieve analyse onderworpen.
The project “Citizenship, Interculturality, Dialogue” was supported by the Foundation P&V and was, in addition, a module of an European project organised by PREFONDES (Pôle Européen des Fondations de l’Économie Sociale). The general aim of the project was to create spaces for exchange, participation and intercultural dialogue. The Belgian project aimed at an intercultural dialogue across the existing language boundaries. Since Belgium, as a multi-linguistic country, has a particular historical and social situation, it is important to construct a guided dialogue between its French and Flemish speaking civilians. It is not our purpose to make immediate and tangible changes, but merely to create an encounter between two, otherwise divided, communities. In this, we do not want to ignore the existing prejudices, stereotypes and clichés about the other language-community. On the contrary, we want to use them to investigate the different types of imaging about the ‘other-language-speaker’. To realize this we recruited 55 civilians to participate in 5 different meetings that were organized, in what we called, a storytelling forum. This means we offered all our participants the possibility to tell one or more stories about language diversity. Finally, all these stories were collected and examined using narrative analysis.
