De binnenstad, voetgangerszone en levensstijlen
Gedurende een periode van 15 maanden onderzochten de onderzoeksgroepen van de ULB, USL en de VUB (Onderzoeksgroep TOR) de Voetgangerszone in Brussel. De doelstelling was om de impact van de voetgangerszone van Anspach Boulevard op de levensstijl van de gebruikers en ex-gebruikers te bestuderen. Dit onderzoek kwam er dankzij het Forum Vies Mobiles en het Brussels Studies Institute (BSI-BCO). Het BSI fungeert als contact- en coördinatieplatform voor academisch onderzoek naar Brussel.
Tijdens dit kwalitatief onderzoek werden interviews en veldobservaties uitgevoerd en om de levensstijlen van de gebruikers nog gedetailleerder te kunnen benaderen hielden de respondenten ook een dagboek bij via de MOTUS-app. Deze fase van het onderzoek duurde 4 weken en tijdens deze periode werd de locatie van de mensen gevat via een GPS-module in MOTUS. Om extra en ‘into the action’ informatie over hun interactie met de Voetgangerszone te verkrijgen, werden via de MOTUS-app extra vragen gesteld op het moment zij toekwamen op de Voetgangerszone. Hiermee koppelt MOTUS feitelijke data aan antwoorden over het specifieke gebruik van de zone als ook aan hun evaluaties en meningen over de zone. MOTUS is een onderzoeksplatform dat ontwikkeld wordt aan de Onderzoeksgroep TOR (Tempus Omnia Revelat, Time Reveals Everything) van de Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

City centre Brussels, pedestrian zone and lifestyles
During a period of 15 months, the research groups of the ULB, USL and the VUB (Research Group TOR) studied the pedestrian zone in Brussels. The objective was to study the impact of the pedestrian zone of Anspach Boulevard on the lifestyle of users and former users. This research was carried out thanks to the Forum Vies Mobiles and the Brussels Studies Institute (BSI-BCO). The BSI acts as a contact and coordination platform for academic research on Brussels.
During this qualitative research, interviews and field observations were carried out and in order to be able to approach the lifestyles of the users in even more detail, the respondents also kept a diary via the MOTUS app. This phase of the research lasted 4 weeks and during this period the location of the people was captured via a GPS module in MOTUS. In order to get extra and ‘into the action’ information about their interaction with the Pedestrian Zone, additional questions were asked via the MOTUS app when they arrived at the Pedestrian Zone. In this way MOTUS links factual data to answers about the specific use of the zone as well as to their evaluations and opinions about the zone. MOTUS is a research platform that is being developed at the Research Group TOR (Tempus Omnia Revelat, Time Reveals Everything) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
