Time budget survey and mobility
The Flemish government’s mobility department asked the Vakgroep Sociologie – Onderzoeksgroep Tor of the VUB to conduct a profound study on the mobility of the Flemings, based on the 1999 Flemish time budget data. In 1999 a representative sample of 1533 Flemings registred their time use for a whole week. If possible some trends will be estimated by comparing the 1999 data and the 1988 Flemish time budget data. In this sample less respondents collaborated for a shorter period of registration.
The analyses consider the problem of the mobility of Flemings. Special attention will be given to time use paterns and the mobility needs. Mobility paterns will be described by back ground indicators, such as the labour market position, the family situation, the number of cars in the family.Futhermore the impact of the home work commuting on other transport activities is estimated and traffic peaks are mapped and unraveled. We want to show who is on the road at peak moments, for what reasons and who might be able to travel in other timeslots. Differences in transport behaviour on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays will be given also a lot of research attention. This deepening of mobilbity behaviour in Flanders will be published in a report.
